The benefits of becoming a member of the Initiative aren't limited to (seldom) mature and (often) intellectual conversation. Membership, also free, gets you first dibs on exclusive giveaways, like free advance passes to films around the city, movie merchandise and more, not to mention an almost instantaneous boost in self-esteem followed by a gradual increase in all-around happiness. 

 

 

Our mission is                       to bring film into the daily lives of the students of FIU, to share moments in cinema among friends, and to allow for connections otherwise unmade. Join us for a movie or step into a film class, and surprise yourself. Your dreams might be waiting in the celluloid. Whether you’re just starting to discover movies or you’re a serious cinephile, take a peek at this semester’s lineup and discover all things film at FIU.

The club shows a film each week, rain or shine, according to our monthly themes (take a gander at our 'current screenings' page to see this semester's full lineup). Before each feature, we usually show a short film that ties in thematically (and we  think adds a little something to the movies). The last film each month is the audience's choice, based on votes
that take place the week before. ​Of course, screenings are free and open to all FIU students.

Usually after each screening, those who want to stay join members, passersby, and invited special guests to talk about the themes we've shown, the films we've played, and about upcoming events and news (and usually to make fun of each other and/or each other's taste in movies).
